Every registered trademark in the Republic of Bulgaria has a term of protection of 10 years, starting from the date of filing the application for registration with the Patent Office.

After the expiry of this period, the trademark owner loses protection on goods and services that were protected by it in the relevant classes. In order to avoid the possibility of third parties starting to use the relevant trademark, it should be renewedBulgarian law does not provide for a limitation on the number of times a trademark registration can be renewed.

The procedure for renewing a trademark under the Law involves filing a request for renewal of the trademark with the Patent Office. The deadlines within which the corresponding application should be filed are no earlier than one year before the expiration of the term of protection or six months after its expiration. 

Through renewal before Upon expiration of the term of protection, the trademark owner can ensure that the goods and services he offered under the respective trademark will remain under the protection of his registration, and third parties will not be able to apply for registration after the expiration of the relevant term.

The trademark owner may request its renewal after the expiry of the relevant ten-year period. 

There is also a possibility for partial renewal of the trademark, covering only certain classes of goods and services that were protected by the registered trademark.
